Boiler Busters: How Air Source Heat Pumps are Heating Things up!

In recent news Rishi Sunak has announced changes to the government’s green commitments designed to meet Net Zero in the UK. Crucially, this includes an increase in the air source heat pump grant by 50%: raising the £5,000 previously offered to £7,500. This grant not only covers air source heat pumps but ground source as well, expanding the variety of renewable solutions available for households with different energy demands.

‘‘There are no strings attached. The money will never need to be repaid’’. – Rishi Sunak

Taking the step to convert to renewable energy in your home and applying for a grant can seem like a daunting task but this is where Elevate Envirotech can help you. In addition to replacing your home’s existing system with a renewable solution, we can apply for the government grant and manage this entire process for you. You only need to ensure that you comply with the following:

  • You own the property
  • Your property is in England or Wales
  • The building has a valid EPC (Energy Performance Certificate) issued within the last 10 years. If not, you will need to get a new EPC certificate
  • You’re replacing a fossil fuel heating system (such as oil or gas)

“You could save up to £1,590 annually on your energy bills depending on where you live and what system you’re switching from.”

There are massive savings to be made by installing an air source heat pump in your home. The reason that air source heat pumps are highly energy-efficient is because they use less energy to produce the same amount of heat. In addition to a reduction in energy bills, this technology has a much longer lifespan compared to traditional heating systems which ensures further savings on maintenance costs. The installation of an air source heat pump will also ensure that you are reducing your carbon footprint as they produce fewer greenhouse emissions and therefore have significantly less contributions to air pollution.

Recently, you may have come across several campaigns casting doubt on the effectiveness of heat pumps in cold weather. However, Oxford University and the Regulatory Project thinktank have found that when temperatures drop below zero, heat pumps out-perform oil and gas heating systems and this is still the case at temperatures as low as -30 degrees. These findings show that air source heat pumps are suitable for almost all homes in Europe. However, the UK is currently behind many other countries that have converted to heat pumps successfully. Notably, France is installing 10 times more heat pumps than the UK.

This suggests that there are still many people in the UK who are not aware of the benefits of switching from a traditional heating system to a renewable solution such as an air source heat pump. Elevate Envirotech are working to change this; contact us today if you would like to know more about how the installation of an air source heat pump can benefit you.
